Ranji Trophy 2019 - Interesting Notes

Round1

Rex Singh of Manipur took first 8 wickets [8-22] fall Vs Mizoram in this match
The last two wickets were taken by Bishworjit Konthoujam

Rex Singh had already taken a perfect 10 in Cooch Behar trophy in this match
Checkout this video

Sanjay Yadav had a closer miss. He took 9-52 vs Nagaland in this match
Last wicket was taken by Abhay Negi

This is more sadder as it was Sanjay's debut firstclass match. Fancy taking all 10 wickets on firstclass debut. But i am pretty sure that this is the best bowling in an innings on firstclass debut

It seems that i was very much wrong! I checked on Ask Steven facebook page and many users commented that there has been better firstclass debut bowling figures, including couple of 10 wickets

Albert Moss took 10-28 on firstclass debut
Delmont Hinds took 10-36 in a 12 a-side match

For India, the best bowling on first class debut is 9-35 by Vasant Ranjane in this match

This url has more details : Best first class bowling on debut

I wish Abhay Negi and Bishworjit Konthoujam had played like Javagal Srinath and allowed Rex and Sanjay to pick all 10 wickets. But, i know nothing about the actual match situation, so unfair of me to expect this from Abhay and Bishworjit

So, as of now, the following legends have no new company

PM Chatterjee    10-20 [ Ranji Trophy] for Bengal Vs Assam
P Sunderam        10-78 [ Ranji Trophy] for Rajasthan Vs Vidharbha in this match
DS Mohanty       10-46 for  East Zone Vs South Zone (Duleep Trophy) in this match
SP Gupte            10-78 for Bombay Vs Pakistan Combined Services and Bahawalpur XI
A Kumble          10-74 [ Test Match] for India Vs Pakistan in this match

Arslan Khan scored 233* for Ranji trophy debutants Chandigarh Vs Arunachal Pradesh in this match
This was firstclass debut for Arslan as well. Pity they didnt let him continue. He had the following guys to chase https://interestingcricketfactsandstats.blogspot.com/2016/02/highest-scores-on-debut.html

Jharkhand won against Tripura after following on in this match
Only the second such case in India after the famous Eden Garden test match

Imliwati Lemtur 3rd consecutive 6+ haul in this match and followed it up with a 50 as well
Sagar Trivedi took 8 wickets in this match on debut and also scored 40 runs
Rahul Dalal scored two 150+ scores in this match

Baroda beat Madhya Pradesh by 1 wkt in this thriller
Stephen and Sasikanth shared all the 10 wickets in the third innings of this match

Round3

Nagaland chased 113 in 12.2 overs to win this match against Sikkim. Stuart Binny scored his first century for Nagaland after swtiching over from Karnataka

Puneet Bisht scored twin 50s as wkt keepe/captain in this match. Have to check if this is common

Paras Dogra scored yet another double century in this match. This was his 9th double century. Only Cheteshwar Pujara with 12 doubles has scored more among Indians

Rahul Dalal continued his fine form by scoring two 50+ scores in this match but Rex Singh won it for Manipur

Abdul Samad scored a quick fire century in 72 balls with 8 sixes in this match

Mumbai lost to Railways by 10 wickets in this match. Have  to check if this is the first instance.

Round4

Low scoring match won by Puduchery against Meghalaya. Highest innings total was 80 by Puduchery in their first innings while Meghalaya was all out for sub 70 scores in both the innings. Sanjay Yadav  was brilliant for Meghalaya picking 8-31 to restrict Puduchery, who got the lead due to a cruicial innings of 27 by Vinay Kumar. Vinay Kumar also picked up 8 wickets in the match to deservedly win the man of the match award

Vaibhav Govekar missed a debut century versus Manipur in this match while fellow debutant Karam Dharmendra had a horrible debut bagging a pair. He unfortunately hasnt added another match in this Ranji Trophy. Hope he can open his account in the next Ranji Trophy

Brilliant come back win by Bihar against Mizoram after conceding 100+ run lead in this match. Abhijeet Saket turned the match around for Bihar with a brilliant spell picking 7 wickets. I remember him bowling lots of maidens in the initial overs and picking wickets, couldnt find more details. I think this was on bcci.tv, have to check.

Ashok Menaria scored twin 70+ scores in this match which Rajasthan lost to Andhra

Gautam Raghuwamshi scored 64 on debut in this match

Mumbai lost this match by 5 wickets against Karnataka, but this was the start of a brilliant run for Sarfaraz Khan in Ranji. He scored 71* in the second innings. Rohan Kadam who had a good run in limited over matches, made is firstclass debut, but didnt have a particularly special match

Saurabh Kumar , who was the captain as well, picked 5 wickets in each innings for Uttar Pradesh in this drawn match against Tamil Nadu, but couldnt stop Tamil Nadu taking a 5 run lead in the first innings and hence the points.

Very close match won by Haryana Vs Chhattisgarh. Final result might not seem very close, but first innings lead was very closely fought for and Haryana got it just by 4 runs

Maharashtra was bowled over for 44 runs in this match Vs Services and ended up losing by innings and 94 runs despite of debut 5 wicket haul by Manoj Ingale. He had 14*(5) in the second innings and even after 5 matches, his batting strike rate was still 140+

J&K thrashed Jharkhand by an innings and 27 runs on the back of a brillian 128(75 balls..10 4s and 11 6s) by Abdul Samad. He had scored a century off 72 balls in the last match as well. Hope to see him in IPL and Indian colours soon. Debutand Aaquib Nabi chipped in with 5 wickets in second innings to close the match

Previous season's top run getter Milind Kumar scored 105* for Tripura Vs Odisha in this drawn match. This was his only century of the season after making a switch from Plate league(Sikkim) to Elite League(Tripura)

Round5

Felix Alemao bowled Goa to victory against Puducherry in this match by picking 11 wickets. Amit Verma continued his fine for with another century. But the sad bit was that Paras Dogra was out for 194. Would have been hist 10th double century behind Pujara's 12

Atulya Priyankar scored 64 on debut in this Bihar win against Manipur. Abhijeet Saket  picked another 7 wicket haul, while the lone fighting hand for Manipur was a second innings 77 by Rex Singh. I think Rex Singh has potential to play for India

Rahul Dalal's brilliant 267* couldnt stop Nagaland claiming first innings lead against Arunachal Pradesh in this match. Many players played well for Nagaland, but the main scorer was Srikant Mundhe who scored 166 and 60+ in the match

Debutant Kumar Suraj followed his first innings duck with a 94 in the second innings of this match which Maharashtra won by 8 wickets against Jharkhand

Parvez Rasool's brilliant 182 won this match for J&K against Services .

Brilliant 1 wicket win by Odisha Vs Haryana in this match. Haryana had a great comeback after beig out for 90 in the first innings, but couldnt stop Odisha from having the last laugh

Harpreet Singh hit a fify and 100 in this drawn match between Chhattisgarh and Assam

Puraja scored his 13th double (248) in this drawn match against Karnataka. He shared a 399 run partnership with Sheldon Jackson who scored 161. Karnataka debutant Praveen Dubey had a decent debut scoring 46* in his only innings. He also picked could of wickets, but hasnt added to his match tally yet and hence doesnt have a batting average.

Railways just couldnt make the 4th innings target of 211 and ended up at 205/5 in this match against Madhya Pradesh. Seems to have been a thrilling match. Naman Ojha hit another century. I feel bad for him as his talent wasnt realised at international level

Samit Gohel scored 93 and 100* for Gujarat in this drawn match against  Rajasthan

Kerala won this match against Punjab courtesy 7 wicket hauls by champion all rounder Jalaj Saxena and Nidheesh. Salman Nizar's not out innings in both the innings was also very cruicial in this low scoring match

Aditya Sarwate took 10 wickets in this match to helo Vidharba win against Bengal

Meghalaya thrshed Mizoram by innings and 425 runs in this match. Meghalaya batted first and scored 662/4 declared on the back of century by Dipu Sanghma and an unbroken 4th wicket partnership of 440 runs between Ravi Teja (204*)and Sanjay Yadav ( 254* from 228 balls with 23 4s and 11 sixes!!).  Sanjay Yadav also picked 6 wickets in the match but the bowling star for Meghalaya was Aditya Singhania who picked 10 wickets in the match. Only Taruwar Kohli gave some fight with 77 for Mizoram in the second innings

Round6

Taruwar Kohli  and G Lalbiakvela were the stars in Mizoram's 78 run win against Sikkim in this match. Taruwar Kohli picked 6 wickets to add to his century and fifty, while Lalbiakvela picked 8-56 in the first innings and added another 3 wickets in the second.

Vinay Kumar (81* and 11 wickets) pipped Nabam Tempol's 12 wicket haul in this 296 run win by Puducherry against Arunachal Pradesh

Rongsen Jonathan hit an unbeaten double in this drawn match for Nagaland Vs Bihar

Manipur was blown away for just 27 runs in their first innings in this match. Meghalaya easily won this match by innings and 116 runs, the star being Sanjay Yadav with 11 wickets

Services won this thriller by 1 wicket Vs Haryana. G Rahul Singh almost took them to victory, but was out with 4 runs remaining, but number 10 player S Pandey was able to see them to victory

Aquib Nabi all round performance was key in this win by J&K Vs Odisha

Jharkhand changes 203 with the loss of 4 wickets to win this match against Uttarakhand. Openet Deobrat was unbeaten on 93 to complete the chase. But Ashish Kumar took 9 wickets in the match and was declared man of the match

Chattisgarh was able to win by innings and 28 runs Vs Tripura with just a single innings of 225 runs in this match. Tripura was blown away for 53 and 144 with just debutant Pallab Das carrying is bat for 76 * in the second innings. Good debut match for him though he was out for a duck in the first innings. Veer Pratap Singh was the MoM with 8 wickets in the match

Maharashtra held on to a drawn after losing 9 wickets in this match Vs Saurashtra. Sheldon Jackson scored 186 in the first innings

Upendra Yadav scored 203* to take UP to 625/8d Vs Mumbai and UP would have dreamed a first innings lead when they got Mumbai at 128/4. Then Sarfraz Khan scored 301* ( with support from Sidhesh Lad and Aditya Tare) to clinch first innings lead for Mumbai ( they ended at 688/7d) . This was the start of a purple run for Sarfraz Khan

Shubham Sharma took 11 wickets for Rajasthan to thrash Kerala by innings and 96 runs in this match . Jalaj Saxena took 7/77 in the first innings, but his batting would have been more useful in ths match!

Vidharba's daring declaration at 330/4 led to their defeat Vs Delhi as they ended by chasing 348 with the loss of 4 wickets. Nitish Rana was unbeaten on 105 from just 68 balls to complete the chase for Delhi. Vidharba already had the first innings lead and you could criticise then for the adventure, but this was a very good advertisement for Ranji trophy, though one feels for Vidharba

Bengal defeated Hyderabad by innings and 303 runs on the back of an unbeaten triple century by Manoj Tiwary( 303* - coincidentally the innings margin) in this match
